some of the PODE controllers are really reliable. Albeit often at the cost of other problems. Peak GCC performance is ok imho.
holding straight in any direction(since holding say slightly up when dashing slows it) in 1 frame is not realistic

if you are referring to x being perfect 1.00 by "straight", that's true, but only <1.266% dash speed difference.

For the first 6 frames (for Falco, different for other characters depending on their stats), there is 0 difference.
