Outliers is pretty terrible tbh, the main thing people take away from it (10000 hours to acheive mastery) is just utterly wrong. There is a ton of people who have worked at a job for 20000 hours who are utter shit at it because they don't put any thought into it.
Even the author himself has backpeddled on the subject iirc. The rest of the book is more or less just intresting anecdotes about celebrities and then saying the rest outside of 10000hrs is down to luck, which isn't a very nuanced or accurate way to look at it.
I'd recommend "top dog, the science of winning and losing" for a book more thorough and is based on actual scientific research if you want more information on a subject!
Out of curiosity, how much reading on the subject have you done? A lot of top player hard work is "visible" (eg grinding and analysis) but people don't talk as much about how much "invisible" prep they do
