I think the funniest thing about the talent vs hard work debate is how little people have read and looked into the subject, yet they're 100% certain one way. Biggest misconception imo is that the only thing people think is "talent" is learning things quickly in the beginning.

To some people that is proof that "talent" is a big deciding factor, but honestly, who does well like that proves nothing except who is the best when almost noone practices hard or properly. It isn't really indicative of top level, or rather, mastery level competition, at all.

Note: do not confuse people who can't explain what they did to get good with people who didn't work hard - many people are just not very articulate/introspective and to them their good hard working habits are so ingrained that they're "natural". Anyway this should be a video.

Luck is a huge factor for any successful person in any field Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell is a good book that discusses this :) And that dumb 10,000 hours rule to be successful thing
-
Outliers is pretty terrible tbh, the main thing people take away from it (10000 hours to acheive mastery) is just utterly wrong. There is a ton of people who have worked at a job for 20000 hours who are utter shit at it because they don't put any thought into it.

It's irrelevant if you cheese a set or if you win through difficult frame-perfect tech. You have to work on the right things for hard work to be of any use, and if you're losing to bad players you obviously aren't doing that unless the game is skewed towards bad players. 1/2

At that point it's not really talent's fault but just game design that rewards bad players to do about as well as good players.
