Have you tried playing actual lagless melee on a crt though? Vanilla melee is quite laggy, ~2f more lag than what I have playing on my setup.
lower input delay doesn't really make for a better game straight up in many cases imo, for melee eap playing 0 buffer on dolphin for example makes many aspect too trivial (reaction tech chasing for example) its cool in the beginning that it feels even more responsive tho

Initially when playing lower lag ull see a huge increase in perceived skill, since u can react to everything faster, but if reacting is too strong it often causea a more defensive and limited neutral

Naturally, any large change has effects on the meta that are entirely subjective. One of the many reasons why I think Hax made a big blunder sticking to higher lag reduction. That makes his monitor melee further away from vanilla crt experience than necessary.

An interesting side to think about your argument is it works the other way too: *More lag* doesn't either mean objectively worse game. Using the exact same argument, one could say that a monitor + vanilla, or even slow lcd tv console results in "better" meta.
