frame drops, input drops, and the audio desync really fuck things up variable buffer / input delay also makes it difficult to achieve the same precision not to mention dolphin input polling is slightly different as well

how does literally any of these things make "top level shit" not work - at best these randomly (relatively infrequent) would lower the success rate, but unless your setup is shit it shouldnt be noticable in 95-99% of cases

a one frame drop during a ledgedash kills you a dropped c stick input misses a stock confirm variable delay reduces your frame-by-frame precision literally even having a USB device plugged into the same USB controller can fuck your inputs up

not trying to be crass but you do you seriously think me, who practices 99% of netplay in all of my games yet still acheives top level at them all, doesn't understand this? like come on, of course you can die to lag during a ledgedash if you're very unlucky, but its still worth-

going for. Small inconsistencies in frame delay and stutters can be annoying, but they do not make entire strategies unviable or change all that notably other than making less tech reliant characters slightly worse. Varying amounts of frame delay slightly buffs chars like Falco-

but again, this is very barely noticable if you have a proper setup and acting like 0,2-0,5 frame delay or a input poll moving one input one frame that mightve changed something changes the entire tier list or makes even 5% of top level shit not work is fucking bonkers.

obviously offline is still better and more consistent, but you could 100% play tournaments on good netplay setups for years and people wouldn't mind if we didn't have offline melee to compare/use to john with. See how long it took for the melee community to shield drop/dashback.

at the end of the day tho i'm very numbers forward and the level of play i'd need to assess is largely absent from anther's ladder and thus my scope of analysis what I've seen from the highest level available to me ain't pretty tho

the starts that account for netplay small stutters - such as what? you seriously think that netplay stutters happen so frequently on the average connection that ledgedashing isn't the best option anymore? got any actual examples or just fluff?

netplay like many other things in smash alters risk/reward curves it's not that ledgedash is not optimal it's that you have a higher chance of failure and thus a higher risk less input intensive options are buffed likewise with lower risk

exactly, so the top level shit still works. good we got that figured out!
