actual hot take: as someone who grew up on netplay, puff is ass on netplay the amount of frame drops and other weird issues actually screws her aerial drift immensely, and she's arguably top 3 most nerfed characters

frame drops, input drops, and the audio desync really fuck things up variable buffer / input delay also makes it difficult to achieve the same precision not to mention dolphin input polling is slightly different as well
how does literally any of these things make "top level shit" not work - at best these randomly (relatively infrequent) would lower the success rate, but unless your setup is shit it shouldnt be noticable in 95-99% of cases

variable input buffer isn't a big issue either, 99% don't play people on netplay with over 8 buffer, and as long as you always keep it at 8/6 (depending on 120/60hz) then you will have an extremely small frame difference (outside of input polling) compared to normal

audio desync i will give you, although you can reduce it to a high degree and the amount of delay is almost never relevant outside of fox/falco side b which imo is still reactable even online. Not to mention that most offline crt setups often has bad/inconsistent audio.
