I mean, even if they can’t fix wifi laggers, there has to be something they can do to improve the online wired-connection input lag. If a major update is needed, so be it. If Sakurai was able to accomplish this, Ultimate would have an significantly longer shelf life.

Netcode goes deeper than you think. It wouldn’t be a major update, it would be a complete rewrite of half the code.

Sorry, I might've misread, where did he say: "Let's do nothing"? English is my second language I might've missed it

I find it a bit worrying how "wifi" is often used synonymously for "netplay" in the Ultimate scene. Online play should never be on WiFi. Calling your online tourney a "WiFi tourney" and then expecting good connections seems like an exercise in futility to me.

I thought it was called that as a joke because it feels like WiFi even when wired. But also wouldn’t be surprised if people weren’t be facetious

The best fixes have nothing to do with netcode: -allow player to switch characters while still matched with one person -allow players to edit tags while still matched with one person -allow players to taunt -actually match players by preferred ruleset
-
you can taunt in battle arenas though. Why anyone would suffer through quickplay is beyond me. These are all quality of life changes, which are nice, but not at all important when compared to the state of online
