@bobbyscar @toph_bbq Before that set I was thinking exactly what y'all are talking about with mindset of MU headed into the set. I think it has a big influence on decision making

Short version is that I think it's possible to taint your decision making when you head into a match with the mindset of, "This MU is brutal for my character, and I have to outplay them 99% of the time to win" even if that's the case IMO.

It even can ruin moments where you, "Made the right read, and X or Y still worked for their stupid character", when the mindset should be something like "Well I made the right read, but the option I chose to beat it was wrong so I should try X or Y"

I see this a lot in fighting games where the match up is bad, and players overreach in moments because the feeling is "If I don't make this HUGE outplay I will lose the matchup" It's a hard mindset to shake I think, especially if 1 key moment goes bad, it spirals.

Yeah I agree. Generally I've always been good at fighting despite shitty stages/matchups, but I can still let it get to me. Problem is that once people do get good enough in a bad matchup, you DO have to make those massive outplays since playing it low risk means a sure loss.

For this set though once I lost game 1 and esp g2 I just didn't think expending the energy would be worth it since it'll only change a seed and having to win on fd/ps is extremely hard for fox v marth.

Although to be honest, mental game definitely still is a big problem for me in the matchup. Its hard not to after being the best at the matchup and working on it constantly for 6 years and only feel it getting worse and worse every day and meanwhile my sheik does better but still

Yeah, obviously you have to make reads/outplay in bad MUs, but it’s key to also put yourself in the right mindset to do so.
