there are multiple ranges. If you're outside of grab range (Which isn't that hard) and you aren't playing against ZSS, G&W, etc: you're +5 to +1 on shield release so they're forced into another oos option in many case. Because of hurtbox manipulation most aerials cannot punish

being outside grab range would be much easier if their movement wasnt bottom tier, and again it makes it very very easy to parry when you always have to jump fully backwards for it not to be shield grabbable. and their hurtbox does not shift down that much lol.

and as a comment to your "byleth likes space" they don't they literally only function well in SH fair distance because theyre so slow and bad at attacking platforms unless straight underneath. They can't do anything to compete with projectile spam at far range.

another move thats unsafe? and 13 frame startup? and will lose to anything other than a parry? and even then you can react to the fair coming out and if you don't get the parry you can just shield again and then punish the dtilt? Yes I said it. its too linear and slow.

How do you react to the fair coming out? It's 13 frames. You need at least 18. And most characters can't punish tipper dtilt on shield. It's -14 and super low profile. That's -3 on shield release.

you use the fact that it has 13 frame startup + the parry flash to confirm that the attack came out (and if it did you will parry it). If it doesn't come out, then you shield again or jump. There is only a 6 frame window on shield release where you can hit them,13 is FAR too slow

ahh ok ok I get you now. Yeah parrying anything in general you should be able to react, I get you now. That being said, if spaced well (fair) you should still be able to spot dodge a parry dash grab attempt. OBVIOUSLY, chars like Fox will obliterate this with parry dash attack.
