Maybe my way of thinking is just too simple minded. In my eyes a game you play nearly every day and enjoy playing that much can't truly be considered "bad" That doesn't mean that I can't acknowledge that they have their flaws ofcourse. There's always room for improvement
I think you're not factoring in the community factor (people who play a game because their friends do etc) or the job factor (get paid playing X) or the general brand loyalty (i don't wanna try new things) - these things can have you truly hate a game and still play it
This is specifically about people that play the game a lot. The job factor is a fair point since those people fall within that category But I don't think the ppl that only play because of their friends actually play that often. I know plenty of people like these and to them...
they value hanging out with their friends more than the game itself and will play less and less over time. They'll go to tournaments but not actually practice the game that much
I don't think its coincidence that people shit on smash 4/brawl after it died for example, but didn't during its lifetime. Because once the game is divorced from everything else I mentioned you can see it much more clearly. Sadly I think the same will happen to Ult.
There were def plenty of ppl that complained at the time LOL esp when MK/IC and Bayo dominated the meta. But yes many felt like it was even easier to criticize the games once they died. Im a bit more optimistic about Ult's future than u especially with potential patches and such
