In general I enjoy tekken but I also hate big character rosters with tons of cheese, its a bit too close to Ultimate in that respect. At least this game has proper counterplay once you DO lab it, but its very hard to get the chance to apply things cuz of the amount of chars+moves
I feel like if you have someone teaching you this game and understand fundamentals well it really isn't as hard to get good at as people make it out to be, but you absolutely can't "just play" and expect to get better.
This is also very true with StarCraft Brood War. Documents, VoDs, build orders, all of it takes you to "beginner" level but without someone coaching/teaching you directly it's super hard to go past that. Mid-level SCBW is all cheese and bad MU understanding.
Starcraft: Broodwar is probably the hardest game that had a huge competitive scene. Korean APM is ridiculous.

I started Tekken 7 last year with no prior Tekken exp. Picked Kazuya as my char, and was basically banging my head against the wall for almost a year until I found friends online willing to help. Skill level started rising almost instantly.
Videos online. @TheMainMan_SWE is really good with kazuya. Just playing the game you can learn things...no one taught me how to punish I just figured it out...
