The sign of a good fighting game for competitive is far more often having top tiers that aren't toxic and are fun to fight, not having every shitty little design be viable so timmy can have his favorite foot fetish satisfied while using the sword character function.

its why people love MVC2, Melee, Third strike, KOF13 etc. Even if a game is techinically balanced, at top level there will always be characters that are more popular than others. Problem with ult is that gimmicks are the strongest and most toxic option.

If someone would quit ultimate because of a few boring match ups then they really didn't like it in the first place. These people would be saying the same thing about fighting Marth, Sheik, or Peach in Melee since it isn't as fun.

I'm quitting/taking a competitive break from Ultimate because of all of these toxic matchups and I don't quit melee because of cc dsmash. You can absolutely hate some of the MUs in ult but like some others considering they don't play similar at all.

I'm not disagreeing that things aren't always fun and often feel toxic. I just feel that's a given and subjective based on the player's preferences / mentality. It's not necessarily some objective problem with the game.

Well duh, and the player you quoted just said hed quit cuz in his subjective opinion those characters are boring to play vs, regardless if theyre good or not. You're the one calling him basically a "scrub" for having a completely valid opinion.

every game has this though. It's impossible to have thousands of matchups and this not be a problem. Complaining about it does nothing but scream into the void. And it only encourages people to complain, even if the complaints are invalid. This creates a toxic culture.

every game has its flaws but no game has this many matchups with this few counterplay options and such a god awful training mode. Complaining about people complaining doesn't help either, blaming people for disliking a part of a game they purchased does jack shit.

My point is that encouraging a more positive outlook and mentality to a competitive landscape which is going to be filled hurdles and difficulties is a good thing. You can like or disklike whatever you want, but it comes to a point where it turns into a toxic culture.

It's the difference between constructive criticism and crapping all over someone. It's nuanced, and I'll admit, it's a lot harder to have a conversation about it on Twitter

Look at your original post man. You're doing everything you're saying not to.

I can agree with you there. My original tweet could have been worded better. It's getting frustrating though. The culture seems to be getting more and more toxic.

Would you agree that back in the day people were more open about tech, Match ups, setting examples, ect? I can't tell if it's the nature of social media that projects this toxicity in tournaments or if it's a lack of perspective
