Being good =/= being boring to fight Many characters in ultimate don't let you interact in a meaningful way (Bayo for example) despite being bad. Even bayo mains themselves say this.

like i'm sorry but i really don't see how its wrong for people to hate fighting little mac and k krool and like fighting wolf and fox. liking fighting a matchup just because you win is far more shallow and shitty of a mentality IMO

The sign of a good fighting game for competitive is far more often having top tiers that aren't toxic and are fun to fight, not having every shitty little design be viable so timmy can have his favorite foot fetish satisfied while using the sword character function.

its why people love MVC2, Melee, Third strike, KOF13 etc. Even if a game is techinically balanced, at top level there will always be characters that are more popular than others. Problem with ult is that gimmicks are the strongest and most toxic option.

If someone would quit ultimate because of a few boring match ups then they really didn't like it in the first place. These people would be saying the same thing about fighting Marth, Sheik, or Peach in Melee since it isn't as fun.

Like, just think about what crouch cancel peach down smash would do to people in this game.

As someone who's local scene is 15 total people. One match up being un-fun to play would absolutely destroy my scene. People stop showing up when they play the same people every week, doubly so when they dislike playing that person's character specifically.

I dont think thats the game fault. Honestly sounds like those players didnt want to actually play seriously. Which there isnt anything wrong with that just means they were prob not going to stay anyway

The players that left because of matchups still play at home, and still attend larger regional events. They simply stopped coming to locals.

Idk maybe its cause im on the outside looking in. When i play gg/unist or tekken if something seems cheap or unfun i just labbed and found a way to beat it or not get put into that situation. Dodging mus like that at a local just seems counterproductive to improving as a player

Those games have actual counterplay mechanics that can be labbed out. The answer to 99% of things in ult is literally camp harder.

Sorry for the spam earlier. I dont see how ultimate doesn't have counter play and maybe its the level im at as a player. To me camping or being aggressive are just ways i have to adapt my gameplan of getting the opp dead. I feel people are a little to stiff on their playstyles.
