Outside of that, it feels like gamefreak hasn't figured out how to make the animations and characters as charming and sleek in 3D as the earlier pokemon games had in 2D. And the wild zone is just so badly executed - extremely laggy, camera doesn't work properly, and looks barren
Obviously I haven't really gotten to the meat of the game yet (still stuck in "tutorials"a few hours in) but I can't really recommend buying the game so far UNLESS you really enjoyed X/Y & S/M. If you liked those then this is game is probably also going to be aight for you.
It's still a pokemon game and it the formula still 100% works - its just that I and many others were hoping for a game better than just "playable" from the most profitable franchise in history.
That all said its a great chill stream game and I will keep an open mind for the rest of the game to hopefully rectify the bad start. Live in half an hourish :)

What if I liked X/Y but not S/M..
If he's still stuck in tutorials a few hours in, I'd guess it's more like s/m than x/y. I don't remember active handholding in x/y being nearly as bad
S/M are about twice as long in terms of number of trainer fights as Sword/Shield btw.
I think that was my biggest hangup of all, was the comparisons to X/Y. I barely got six hours into the game and couldn't pick it up again because of how invasive the tutorials felt. Tbh, Twilight Princess did the same thing to me and I gave up on that one about an hour in...
i personally love x/y and sun/moon but sword/shield are complete trash for a mainline game on the switch
i wish they would go back to animated pixel sprites & the ability for your pokémon to follow you
I enjoyed S/M, handholding & lack of exploration was annoying BUT the story/character development were above average, you could turn off exp share to get a decent challenge, graphics were okay for the 3DS, and it had all the pokemon I ain't buying SwSh tho, it looks really bad
