I know everyone hates spot canceling in Ultimate but with the way I think the meta is going to progress I'm starting to believe it's necessary. Offense / set play is just going to get stronger and stronger. I could be wrong, but that's currently my take.

cuz people gain confidence against some defensive options over time hoping the meta develops to more movement-based defense

Walling is incredibly broken because of edgeguarding and ledgetrapping being relatively low reward, and retreating aerials have no answer in this game since runup shield has tons of startup and runup parry even more (+ fadeback late aerials are even safe vs parry often)

Retreating aerials is safe and sacrifices position, it's a tradeoff. They're probably even safer in melee. The annoying addition that Ult has is characters who can set up camp even from the corner and shoot projectiles

They're generally not safer in melee since the option after the aerial (sheild, spotdodge) is far worse, and runup options are stronger (cc/shield) Also if u get hit at the edge u can actually die at 0
