This 100%. Nintendo is not doing nearly enough. Other companies are paying millions of dollars to get half the viewership smash does. Both parties could benefit if Nintendo stopped dropping the ball

Nintendo historically has done absolutely nothing for the competitive scene [melee,brawl] so this doesn’t shock me that much. I don’t think they are going to provide anything more than what they are providing now.

How does Nintendo benefit though? They've already sold ~15 million copies of the game. Will sponsorship move more units? I'm a fan of competitive Smash and want it to succeed, but it's hard to imagine a business case where it actually matters to Nintendo's bottom line.

Sell DLC skins. You'd be surprised how much money Nintendo is leaving at the table.

Nintendo can support prize pools ONLY if they continue to make content for the game. Most companies that support the competitive scene make a ton of money off cosmetics, which then are then used for prize pools. Frankly, i dont think Sakurai wants to monetize the fans like this.

Ye it's known by now that Nintendo would rather put the funds in rnd for new games and consoles in the future rather than funding the eSports scene

I think Nintendo/Sakurai are more interested in putting the funds into making games instead of into supporting competition. It sucks but they don't seem to see it like the players do.

I don’t get why people are expecting Nintendo to do anything. They are doing more than enough considering they never intended Smash to be a fighting game and the fans just made it that way.
