Not really, the reason top players complain so much is because the schedule isnt revealed until very late (or isnt even final two days before the event like for shine) and by then its "too late" to change. I really wish TOs could just ask the players the schedule affect the most.https://twitter.com/DotZeb/status/1164208016394215429 …

Its really frustrating since top players are the only ones really affected by bad scheduling (since most people go out after R1 pools) and so it feels like we aren't even considered for the events. No top players would've okayed some of the schedule supermajors hosted recently.

It's a very "rock and a hard place" situation. If we choose to run pools on starting on Friday, then we MUST communicate that when registration begins. Then if turnout is under ~750 we look foolish having people play 3 games on Friday then be done for the day.

This also affects our badge sales and vendors, as having 50%+ of the bracket players be knocked out on Friday will massively decrease the attendance for Saturday.

Do you mean playing to top ~32 on Saturday and then finishing Sunday? To be honest we're in a new venue this year, and I'm not 100% sure how workable having multiple streams going on Sunday will be. I do agree that this can work in theory (for the game with the final top 8).

top 48 but yeah thats what tournaments used to do before "championship sunday" started taking priority over competitors having a fair schedule

like its wild to me that youre saying this all works "in theory" when this schedule clearly doesnt work and the other one has been the standard for YEARS

I don't really have an answer for you, I wasn't the one who created the schedule, but after giving it some thought I do agree with you. "Championship Sunday" is good for massively viewed events like EVO, but I don't think it's necessary or even good for smaller tournaments.

Yeah. I think for massively viewed events where thats the only priority then you should be considering floating (at least in melee) to make things better for top players who are expected to play with little sleep and at late AND early hours

and EVO runs like 12 games not 2 as well, so I don't even think running only two top 8s (or running smash 64) is even better for viewership.
