Highly valuing that is exactly the problem. Tournaments are not harder because they have more entrants, and its far harder to get as many entrants in japan/europe, and with how japan is considered to be overall stronger than us you should realize the huge problem.
I can get that but with a new game there's almost no way of judging that - how were people going to know that ProtoB (who had like one notable Smash 4 event) or Gluto would be really good going into this game? It'd be attaching arbitrary skill to people when it may not carry over
