Production wise I’d say Heavens Feel is better than UBW and the story feels more fresh for Fate. And you don’t need to read the route at all it explains everything well.

The movies will still tell the gist of the story well and look amazing, but if you have the time it’s definitely worth it to go through the vns.

You can yeah. Just the fate route is terrible in anime form and should be read in the VN and only that option, the rest are good adaptations
