What is the best way to cover and beat neutral get up, get up attack and roll from ledge (consistently/on reaction)?

for most chars, shield close and do an aerial oos (with lasting hitboxes) that starts 10ish frames or faster on reaction to seeing regular standup or getup attack (they are usually not distinguishable). For roll you want to change the drift to back so that a bair comes out -

this is best done with chars that can do nair to cover standing and bair to cover roll, since you press Jump + A regardless and only the direction is what you change (the less inputs required for reaction, the easier it gets to consistently do it) However, cuz of ults buffer-

you need to make sure that if they get up attack, you do not default to holding back + jump + a, since this will buffer a bair oos (out of what would normally be fadeback nair). The 2 main problems to this are 1. long rolls (peach for example) and 2. standup is a 2 frame window -

and 3. ledgejump/drop down jump options that are safe on shield and 4. many chars lack a good oos option that well punishes them just staying on the edge. 1 is broken and requires reads, you can call out rolls by dash/jumping back while still easily reacting to get up attack tho

for 2. it helps to mixup your oos option on reaction to the standup with grab and another aerial which covers spotdodge. Spotdodge is invul frame 3 so this gives grab a 4 frame window, but grabs are only active for 2 frames and can often be punished if you misread roll vs standup

you essentially want to make sure that you have a big chance to win the exchange or at least likely to be safe EVEN if you react wrong, because of how many options you have from the edge. if the opp tries to do standup and spotdodge it loses easily to nair oos (non fadeback) -

and standup shield loses always to grab oos and is even/minus vs fadeback nair oos. for 3 and 4 its very char specific, and it often decides how good your char is at ledge trapping. some chars need to stand at roll range to not lose like 50% of the time to ledgejumps.

2 main ways to cover ledge jump: 1. preemptively call it out with a lasting/safe move (many high level players suck dick at mixing up what timing they ledgejump, almost always earliest possible or decently delayed) or 2. go to roll range, hope they ledgejump and do early options

(like dbl jump or rising fair etc) and then punish them coming down. Again, you can choose what couple options you want to cover, and if they don't know where you'll be and what options youre gonna cover when they decide theirss, you have a higher chance of winning the exchange.

Aight thanks! It also helped me get a clear overview again :p I played around with many of the strategies you listed, personally having the most success with standing around roll range/tip or just outside of get up attack range and then use a ranged attack like Bair.

It seems to cover most options and even when they jump its easy to catch their landings (can sometimes also throws out a preemptive Fair, will also hit on ledge). Tried shieldijg and standing on the ledge to Nair and it isnt bad but covering rolls + jump landing is harder
