I personally love swiss waterfall and round robin type for tournaments, as long as it doesn't screw over top competitors really hard. Fun to see SNS experiment!

I still think floating for top players makes a lot of sense for melee (NOT ULTIMATE or any game with frequent upsets). I know I'll get hate for this opinion but I 100% think itd make it better for everyone, with top players able to do signings/commentary day 1 and attend more.

I think floating would work if we had a circuit, where top 8/16/whatever of an event gets floated at the next in the circuit

This already happens for summit. Shine could just partner up with SNS and say top 8 gets floated etc

It's also probably be better for worse players because they'd have a less chance to have to fight against a top player and get utterly destroyed

Earned floating is essentially the formats premise, tho divs only advancing in losers was meant to keep any situation losing in pools was beneficial to bracket placement or harmful to seeding, i.e. magi over mango and now you have to play mango r1 because he runs through div2 lol
