I don't think Snake and Olimar are that oppressive, but the fact that ultra defensive characters with terrible movement who use like 3 moves for 99% of their neutral and have one combo each are doing well at all makes me sad. I straight up just don't watch matches with them.
I feel like half of ultimates chars are really boring by design tbh, and most people only like watching duck hunt, samus and pac man etc do well because they are rare, because they are just as campy and boring as snake and olimar for me. Idk maybe thats just me.
IMO not necessarily bad design, but the game is too rewarding for camping vs aggressive play in its current state. The shield damage changes were a good start, but it's not enough. Parries need to feel much more rewarding imo.

I still think Olimar and snake are fun to watch but it's absolutely a snooze fest to play against and everytime I imagine myself in the opponents shoes I just get sad about the state of the game, def not nearly as enjoyable as melee haha
Duck Hunt is godlike to watch for me. Seeing all of the can set ups and how a player controls not only that but the character at the same time is a sight! And don't even get me started on gunman and interactions with the can through attacking it.
Watching Raito play the character is more interesting than half the cast tbh
PacMan seems to have some variance in combos at least. You do see a lot of the good stuff but its not like a Mario will abstain from doing Up Air ladders. Granted its more often than Samus and there are other variables but I don’t think charge characters are inherently defensive.
Best characters are the one who does not look like everyone esle and who can adapt or being played differently depending on players. I mean, all KKR are the same and boring, Lucina is boring, Snake is annoying ...
You’d be surprised how much more Snake camps than Pac. Pac has way more going for him, neutral-wise.
