Zard is not worst in game nor is he a liability to the Trainer squad. He's simply mediocre.

The main thing is that regardless of how bad Zard is, I can't see him as a liability because his existence doesn't subtract from PT, rather at worst he adds very little. He's an underwhelming asset rather than a liability.
well the thing is, since ivy isnt consistent enough at killing vs most top tiers, you still need to play charizard, and thats why everyone eventually plays him and generally, does very poorly. it also makes Ivys down b awful, since if he swapped to squirtle one of his main flaws

would be a little less awful (getting down/getting out of disadv). imo because of charizard being so awful if you cant kill well with Ivy you probably lose the MU - and I think if you look at most high level PT matches this constantly becomes a turning point in games.

On the other side of that coin, removing Zard and swapping from Ivy to Squirtle would lead to various instances where the character would just lose the stock when they could've survived as Zard. Recovery moments/when the switch is called out in disadvantage etc

Wait genuine question here can you explain what you mean by ivy isnt consistent at killing. Ivy has a fuck ton of kill setups off grab razor leaf and well just look at up air. Im not trying to prove you wrong just a little confused

razor leaf hit that kills is both DIable and unsafe on shield + slow startup grab is slow and short range for a tether uair is good but hes very bad at covering horizontal movement so most can choose to approach from that angle and greatly reduce risk of dying.
