Gen 7 didn't change much about the formula, trials were basically still gyms, Alolan Forms were nothing different from new Pokemon, HMs weren't abolished completely, nothing much was changed just the same formula with a new coat of paint

I can agree that they should attempt to shake it up again, the way it was done in Sun and Moon was awful though and I think they should go back to the old formula for this game, and give something new a crack in the next game.
