biggest problem is that people the higher level you go and the more people get familiar with ivy they just start not getting grabbed as easily

you don't need grab to start his advantage state, and sure his grab is bad the theoretical perfect world isn't the same as the world we live in, the one where dk/zss in s4 could fish for grabs at the top level with setups and find great success

as long as you have insanely good throw setups fishing for grab will always be somewhat viable if you know how to condition people and have some normals that mixup into it, no matter who it is

well grabs were infinitely more powerful in 4, and ivys grab is a short 12 frame tether with no other good ground normals - he doesnt actually have good mixups into grab sadly

fair, razor leaf, and bair grab are all good mixups at low%, they give you plus situations for you to guess between airdodge, jump, and attack, and due to the range of grab you can basically just wait there for an option and then get heavy advantage off jump/grab the others

plus fair past the percent where you get grab gives the same adv state you would get off of grab (double upair), and so does leaf. Leaf also early percents true combos into dash attack which gives a similar position/juggle situation as grab

i dont think grabbing airdodge/directional airdodge/specials/different attacks/emptyland spotdodge or jab on reaction is realistic at all the big problem is that its 12/13 frames and laggy, while the opponent doesnt have to fear anything else from grounded ivy

take advantage of the fact that people aren't typically scared of ivy on the ground! his dash attack is a great burst option for that very reason and my hitrate with it is exceptionally high with it.

also if you want we could lab the scenario with you where i hit you with fair around 0-15 and i wait for a retaliating option and i grab it or upair it if they jump, they can really only aerial or directional airdodge to actually escape the situation and you can react to both

again, even if you think so (which i dont), it still requires landing a unsafe slow aerial with a slow short hop and every other good character just gets true combos from faster more safe options
