The story and the music are amazing by themselves, but since they are almost always presented through the combat or a 10fps cutscene it squanders all the potential it had.
It is still a really interesting game, and I'm very hopeful that the next one will live up to its potential. I just wish I'd watched it rather than played it tbh. Fastforwarding all the filler/boring parts (of which there are MANY) would've helped a lot.
Going to watch the rest of the lore and other endings on youtube. Pretty excited since it can't crash on me or force me to kill harmless enemies over and over between every plot point.
I like how you progressively cool down from calling the game a 4/10 to describing what you enjoyed or what could have been done better. Tastes vary as always, not everyone I knew liked the game. By the way, What other single player games have enjoyed before?
Not very picky when it comes to single player games but some favorites: bayo, sotc, botw, oot & mm, p4/p5 (the 20 hours ive played of it). A few of the Fire emblems as well.
There are some parts that really don't work/have no effect if you don't play the game, one shining example is Ending E, you didnt see the full extent of it though. Also, Ending E is a watered down ver. of Ending D in NieR, which is something that only works in a video game medium
If I watched a streamer do it then it would still work. And then I could actually focus on listening to the music and the story instead of paying attention to the combat.
I watched it on youtube and after about 8 hours being able to just skip through any traversing and combat parts made the experience 1,000,000% better
Understandable opinion. I think a lot of people who liked it (including me) have a high tolerance for the repetitive aspects. Really wish it had a better combat system
Yoko taro games have this issue where they have interesting concepts and characters but alongside substandard gameplay. Automata seems to be a step in the right direction though
The PC Port is garbage, and there is no excuse for not releasing any patches. Loved the game for the whole presentation, especially the music, and the story with its subtle but powerful messages. Gameplay is pretty Platinum Games standard, nothing to really brag about for sure.
That may have been for the better. Watched you stream the first part, and some times you seemed distracted by interacting with the stream, to the point where you didn’t pay attention to what the characters were saying, about where you should go next, etc. And the main takeaway 1/
for me was the story and music. It was semi-revolutionary imo, in how it has a lot to say about why we enjoy games like that. I agree that the combat was too easy on Normal. That was a negative, but I enjoyed the movements and watching flashy animations.
