I think melee awards punish game and neutral far more than any defensive option like DI etc.

Oh I was referring to defense as defensive neutral, and offense as offensive neutral. Hard to really pin down as there's so much overlap especially with characters like falco, but a lot of people would say that melee has quite a defensive neutral game.

Also I definitely feel like defense as in escaping opponents punish game is far easier to work on than neutral, with much quicker reward. I labbed out loads of stuff on my channel and practiced them, stuff like DSDI out of fox plat techchase uair and whatnot

and it's far quicker in rewarding you than getting better neutral game is. But to do this you kinda have to know how to lab the game, if someone hasn't already done the work for you.

I think youre thinking to anecdotally tbh. The fact that people had not labbed that out before you (and many top players still dont use it) speaks volume about what the game prioritizes imo.

I don't necessarily agree. Amsa first beat wizzy properly at g5. Watch back that set and you'll see him abusing slight DI away out of dthrow so wizzy can't get a techchase (or true punish for that matter). It ended up being a game changer in that set imo.
