melee ledge mechanics have problems but the way it improves edgeguarding without making it too good like 64 is easily the best in the series. It could def benefit from lower invincibility tho.

I think Brawl/Melee ledge play has more depth to it, but at the costs of char balance. I don't even like Smash 4, but I the ledge game is overall better for the game. And when I say removes depth, it's not like there's no depth there. It still creates for an interesting dynamic

I dont think the edge in melee/64 actually hurts bad chars much at all. Low tier recoveries are usually not the ones who need to be edge hogged. It hurts chars like sheik and falcon way more.

Ledge trumping isn't strictly "removing options" though, it's more changing options. The person recovering now has the option to go to ledge. The person covering ledge getups now has the option to trump > bair, or bait a reaction to it.

100% agree. I blame the combination of ledge snapping + ledge trumping for the gross ledge play in Smash 4. If both weren't present the ledge would've been a lot more interesting. Imagine Melee recoveries with ledge trumping, that wouldn't be so bad in isolation

Melee ledge mechanics putting the player in the corner at an advantage with invincible ledge dash or ability to plank is ass design and smash 4’s ledge trapping is highly skill based and rewards the player for having stage control far better than any other game in the series

I'm not a huge fan of trumping but I don't see how it removes options at all.

My only complaint about brawl and melee is chaingrabbing. I'm happy to have ICs in a game where one grab isn't a kill
