MC/Ichigo, childhood friends who don't pilot together but ichigo wants to. 02 shows up and ichigo is jealous but needs to do whats best for the team and not herself Ichigo/02, conflicted over pilot position with hiro. talks a lot about piloting but not actually the mech itself
see this is all about piloting. Thats my point, not that the discussion literally happens in the cockpit.

you disagreed that the majority of character drama happens outside the mechs, that's what i was arguing about yeah they talk about piloting mechs cause that's what mech shows do also, considering they're talking about mechs, butt controls don't really come into play do they

Mecha shows talk about piloting because the mecha fighting generally plays a vital role. It does not in ditf despite the focus put on it, thus it drags the entire show down.
