edgeguarding, proper kill options, less focused on 50/50 airdodge reads, proper whiff punishing, unique viable characters, theyve fixed some of my problems with smash 4 but the core gameplay is still largely the same, im hopeful it can keep changing though.https://twitter.com/zerowondering/status/1015626441260707841 …

1. with almost certain instant death if you air Dodge off stage (or you're required to recover OD low) how aren't there good edge guarding options? Although there are magnet hands it is much harder to get on the stage after grabbing the ledge compared to Melee.

most chars can recover from 1 airdodge easily with doublejump + up b, and since magnet hands makes it really stupid to edgeguard low recoveries some chars just dont get edgeguarded a lot. ledgetrapping is honestly incredibly dull and a bad replacement for good edgeguarding/oki

You can edge guard people who have to double jump up-B. Magnet hands won't save them in that situation.

doing that while also forcing them to airdodge is hard and unlikely, and trying to hit a rising up b with huge sweetspot with hitbox and no good spikes like melee/64 is extremely hard

When recovering you attack where they HAVE to double jump to get back on stage, if they AD & don't die you have PLENTY of time to go down there. There is a 50 / 50 involved if they're close enough to the stage to air dodge into it but that doesn't make edge guarding bad.

what about after neutral airdodge? i also agree with leffen that ledge trapping is very dull also, to what extent have magnet hands been reduced?

I don't know 100% but I looked at some footage and it looks like it's at least 25% smaller. It actually wasn't even that bad in S4 because of the 2 frame mechanic.

imo it was pretty bad. seeing people miss the 2 frame 95% of the time and then go into ledge trapping gets boring to watch, and it's not that fun to play

You do realize that ledge trapping was never guaranteed right? It was completely counter-able with reading your opponent. Similar to Melee. Person on stage has the advantage (In most cases) But with the proper read the person on the ledge can counter.

yes. its still incredibly dull. when you tech chase in melee for example, the read either way is a fast, quick reset to neutral, or a continued combo to a flashy finish, usually relatively fast and well animated.

I don't think it's fair to 1 to 1 compare to Melee LOL. That's the best game ever made.

thats what its up against for me and many others - but regardless, if you do oki in well regarded fighting games like 3rd strike, tekken, GG etc, the same thing applies. How combos and disadv. state is realized is a huge part of any fighting game, and i consider smash 4s bad.
