and the new "changes" seem to be far more universal than specific. In a game where everyone plays the same, short hops the same, dashes the same, has a 7 frame land lag aerial with good aerial mobility, no throw that combos, the playstyles are likely to be incredibly similar.

I think it's too early to judge. Everyone is playing it like Smash 4 because they're used to it just like when S4 came out they tried to play it like Brawl at first. No one is moving properly, peeps are still rolling without punish, and no one is taking advantage of parrying yet.
