This isn’t discussed often, but TO’s improve through practice - just like players. A sponsor or new event partner doesn’t magically imbue experience. Making mistakes and reflecting on them does.
I don't understand - open seeding isnt really related to open attendance, since seeding is done much later, after registration has closed. The negative talking points happened now anyway, after it was too late to change most of it. Tons of smash events just skip that.

many events had a rough initial draft for seeds, but they were fixed with the help of the community and the discourse helped TOs recognize what the top players and community wanted from seeding, and made sure the whole transition much smoother.

Right now people in the FGC complain when great matches happen offstream, or when top players go out early, and while not always, its often caused by bad seeding causing matches most people would want to watch happening too early. Not to mention that it rewards players properly.

Seeding & attendance/registrants (interchangeable words for me) are always related. This is an extended convo though that I’d love to have whenever we’re sitting down somewhere. Couple misconstrued words/ideas here & we might rabbit hole down point/counterpoint tweet-storms.
