Despite their assertions to the contrary, society coddles conservatives. They're allowed to make thinly veiled arguments for ethnic cleansing and sexual assault while simultaneously crying about someone using bad language.

I was not surprised to see a lot of extremely dumb rubes freaking out about a 70% top marginal income bracket, but this guy is supposed to be a professional political analyst. For the life of me, I can't tell if he's as dumb as his audience or simply operating in bad faith.

the overlap between people who don't understand marginal tax rates and people who think AOC is Stalin is about 100%

This is truly amazing. The Justice Department admits that, under Trump, it effectively made up and misstated information to link immigrants to terrorism, but that it won't retract or correct the culprit report.

This gets at something that Dems have also become more willing to understand: process dictates to possibilities of policy making.

And just like that: everybody's now talking about whether to tax the wealthy at 70%. That's called shaping the conversation.

This is a very smart threat that pinpoints what makes me so pessimistic about the media going forward.

To all the plutocrats and philanthropists who write me saying, “OK, fine, you got us, we’re guilty of upholding a bad system, but what can we practically do right now?” Be a traitor to your class and publicly support something like this.

70% income taxes on high-earners are both familiar (we had them not that long ago) and supported by the bulk of expert research. It is the DC establishment that's dumb on this, not AOC.

Empirically, raising taxes on the wealthy is consistently one of the most popular items in the Democratic agenda.

A quick thread on the economics of a much higher top rate for the super-rich. TL;DR version is that is on very solid ground here. There is a lot of evidence that from an economic and fiscal perspective, we'd be way better off with top rates approaching 70.

From the clip it doesn't seem like her argument here is that raising taxes on the wealthy is *the* way to fund a GND. But! The consumption habits of the ultra-rich are extremely bad for the planet. Cutting into their disposable income is a good way to help lower their emissions

Good morning! Politics is neatly divided between people I respect and people who are troubled that a new member of congress called Donald Trump a "motherfucker."

Imagine living through the Obama administration and coming away still thinking that the way Republicans frame Democrats has any correlation whatsoever with the way Democrats actually conduct themselves.

My take on Rashida Tlaib is that while the Democratic Party is being pushed to the left on policy, it's not really being pushed left at all on political temperament. And the policy doesn't really have a prayer unless people make the second push happen as well.
