My existence is ephemeral, I won't have kids, and my life is about the experiences I have, the people I meet and what I learn along the way. I have built some stuff that leaves the world a better place than I found it. Most people will never know. For me, that's enough.

I completely agree. Pineapple on pizza is good and right. Anyone who disagrees with this is wrong and bad.

Been there, done that, the struggle is real. Ultimately I ended up being less good at engineering but far better at delivering outcomes requiring team effort.

We have the technology to rapidly diagnose coronavirus in every major metro area. The problem is the bureaucracy! Decentralized testing should be immediately expedited, with executive order if necessary. Every CLIA-certified lab should be able to do this, it’s just RT-PCR.

Fun fact: That job screening company that scans Twitter accounts for bad words has developers that commit plaintext passwords on GitHub. ... Maybe they're scanning the wrong website.

The Dems have nominated four presidential candidates in this century. The three safe ones all lost. The no-chance-on-paper guy won. Vote with your guts.

There has been a genre of “official misinformation” where Washington Post, Wired, USA Today, BuzzFeed, etc have posted dangerously trivial headlines comparing coronavirus to the flu. Fortunately, NYT has been publishing the science from NEJM, Lancet, CDC, WHO. Credit where due.

I got a pizza for dinner today. This was the smallest one (I couldn't even finish half). It came with pink mayonnaise and hot sauce. While the mayonnaise was a hard no, I tried the hot sauce and it was surprisingly good. Even totally familiar foods can take on a new twist abroad.

It's so hilarious that hackers are posting stuff like reverse engineering tutorials on pornhub because YouTube bans them. "Boss, I swear, it's not how it looks, I was watching a conference talk!"

There are two hotels here, one of which is high end (most of the Germans stay there), and a handful of guest houses. I'm at a guest house. It's located next door to a guy who raises roosters for fighting. The owners are perfectly lovely and the place is spotless.

Although it's just a 19 minute (and incredibly expensive) flight away from San Andres, Providencia couldn't be any different if it tried. San Andres is full of all-inclusive resorts that attract the lower middle class neck tattoo set from Colombia. Providencia attracts Germans.

People here speak a local language they call Creole, but most of them also speak basic English. The Creole isn't the same as anywhere else. It is a mix of English and African languages, so when the locals are speaking with each other you can occasionally pick out English words.

I arrived safely on Providencia. It took 3 days and 5 flights to get here (you can get here a little faster from Seattle, but honestly not much). So far, first impressions are WORTH IT. It's one of the most relaxed places I have ever been.

I've heard some folks saying this Democratic primary is no time to take a risk—and I agree. The biggest risk that we could take right now would be to try to go up against this president with the same old playbook.
