    Today, I'm committing to donating 5 percent of future post-agent income from my 2d book to BIPOC-led literary arts projects. That’s publisher payments, fellowships, speaking fees: If I got $ via book #2, 5% goes out the door.

    I feel like this doesn't get said enough. I didn't learn what lynching was until I was in an advanced history seminar as a junior at an elite university. How the hell are people supposed to be decent if we don't know what came before us?

    I’ve met so many white students through the years who grew up cloistered in all-white communities w all-white schools where they’ve learned a white-washed history, only read books by white people & then they go to college & are completely lost in the world that actually exists.

    It is so enraging, it not entirely surprising, to learn that Baker College is selling a bill of shady goods. Kudos to in her inaugural investigation—and for collaboration with !

    For decades, Baker College promoted a graduate employment rate of nearly 100%, persuading people in search of a better life to enroll – and to take on big loans. But the self-reported number refers to any job at all. And most students never graduate.

    This. I'm so thrilled to see this wonderful reporting, and especially on this platform. Cheers all around.

    So excited about this story! Wrote about the single mothers & poor women of color on welfare who organized the welfare rights movement in the 1960s. MLK's shift to UBI was ultimately inspired by their early push for a guaranteed adequate income.

    I used $ from my 2019 commitment to spend 5% of income from my next book supporting BIPOC-led lit-arts projects. (See thread.) I've been buried in work and only saw this on Monday; was waiting on a deposit that came this AM. Closes 11/20. Sharing now in case it helps others give.
