Over a year after the shooting, a grand jury declined to charge Loehmann or his partner, Officer Frank Garmback. Timothy J. McGinty, the Cuyahoga County prosecutor, said he recommended no charges be brought. /3https://nyti.ms/2m339mt
Over two and a half years after the shooting, Garmback was suspended for 10 days and ordered to have more training while Loehmann was fired—not for killing Tamir, but for lying on his CPD job application. /4https://nyti.ms/2rk3xhX
It's disgraceful Loehmann only faced disciplinary action because of false answers on his job application, and not also for killing a child. His lies are indicative of why he was unfit to join the force in the first place, but his conduct is why he should have lost his badge. /5
The Cleveland Police Department still has a long way to go on the road to reform, and going forward, the city must ensure timelier accountability for officers who break either the law or CPD rules. /6
We urge @TheJusticeDept to continue enforcing the consent decree with the city of Cleveland to the fullest extent of the law, so that these devastating tragedies are not repeated. /7
#TamirRice and his family deserved better. They deserved more from the
