If you do more than 35 gigs or jobs with the same company, they will have to classify you as employee, and they aren't going to do that. They will just find someone else.

Agree it's insane. But freelancers don't all struggle like hell. It's a ton of work, yes, but a lot of us are making great $ freelancing (i.e. building our own biz), more than enough for our own health benefits, retirement, a beautiful home etc. We don't want to be employees!!!

Seems to me that the California legislature often tries to solve problems that don’t exist.

There are problems in every industry, but the wording of this law doesn't fix anything. If a company was forced to keep a certain ratio of staff writers to freelancers, it might work. Don't cap the writer. Cap the business.
