Certainly for people below a certain means. It could be said that the state owns your house because if you don’t pay up every year they confiscate your home, throw you out, and sell it off to someone else.

Hi Mr. Cain, for level of means I do not have a number for you, but I have in mind folks that worked hard their entire lives, paid off their home and lose it because property tax was not paid. There may not be many, but it’s pretty sad to see esp. when it’s all they’ve known.

Most property tax paid goes to school funding. There seems to be a disparity in school funding and quality based on level of community wealth. It doesn’t seem right that a school district funds 60 mil. for a high school football stadium while schools in other areas crumble.
