um because it's more than that and you know it. Unions collectively bargain- so all workers get the benefits of the CBA- but this ruling permits those who benefit from the union's work (negotiating a good CBA, providing representation at grievance hearings,) without paying dues.
So you're saying folks won't voluntarily pony up? Guess the services offered by the union aren't worth much then...

regardless of the quality of services, people will take advantage and not pay, it's why we have compulsory taxes to pay for police, fire, and other government services. but I know that's not a right wing talking point- so you'll pretend to not understand.

So dues to a private organization (that contributes to political organizations and candidates) is now the same thing as being forced to pay taxes for public services?

I'll gladly accept union dues as optional while benefiting from the union if taxes are optional while i benefit from police, fire, and military protection. How many people do you think wouldn't pay taxes if optional? But you wouldn't say our military isn't worth much, would you?
