Currently, public sub counts are abbreviated in most but not all places across YouTube. In August, we’ll make this more consistent by always showing abbreviated sub counts publicly. Creators: You’ll still see your full sub count in Studio! Learn more → http://yt.be/help/abbrev-count …pic.twitter.com/pmaKk4EU4k

We want to create more consistency everywhere we publicly display subscriber counts! Creators will still be able to see their exact number of subscribers in YouTube Studio.

The subscribe button and most other surfaces on YouTube already show the abbreviated subscriber number, so this update will just bring consistency. Creators will still be able to see the exact number of people that subscribe to their channel in YouTube Studio.

Well I understand that you want it to look nice and neat and that isn’t an issue. Look at it from the subs perspective. Boogie2988 started this year with 4.5 million subs. I can also the exact number. Now, how am I gonna know how close he is to 4.6, if all I see are decimals?

You could make it an option to show the full number or round it for both subs and creators. If that’s not possible, create a vote and ask the users which one they would prefer. You get consistency and we get to follow our favorite creators’ progress.
