Stores have been spending hundreds of thousands per year on new armed security because shoplifting is falling? Sure... checks out.

In the US, people frequently believe crime is getting worse despite crime dropping dramatically Why wouldn't already paranoid store owners feel the same way? Business people are frequently just straight up wrong about things Or maybe it's the fear of mass shootings?

Because store owners have direct access to the correct information. Walgreens isn't closing stores because they're paranoid.

Here's a rule: if you really want police protection, you report crimes. If it's something you just shrug off, you don't. Fact is, apples to apples, shoplifting complaints have steadily declined for years. It's the surgies burden to show exactly why that data is wrong and 1/

Here's a rule: If the police have made it clear they're not going to bother investigating and prosecuting crimes you report, sensible people won't bother. It's very obvious why the data is wrong, and the notion that national chains are lying about this is ridiculous.

Yeah, but property crimes for businesses are one of the few things cops bother with Besides that, insurance claims often require some kind cop record

Plus national chains LOVE to overstate or shift the blame for things and are much more likely to have strict rules about always reporting a crime We also have the numbers businesses report financially that discuss losses due to shoplifting

Waiting for a comprehensive account of those numbers, which I'm sure you have (with 5 year comparisons) and can provide in your response to the data people at the Courier, copy here. You can't just say stuff. They've got evidence; match it.
