    A returnee from Syria’s Rukban camp killed in Assad regime detention. Mahmoud Issa al-Faris left Rukban last year due to ongoing siege. Relatives were told that he died from a “heart attack” in Military Intelligence Branch 291 in Damascus.

    . and many others warned about the arbitrary detention of children in northeast camps and transfer to adult prisons, where they don't belong. Now, 850 children in detention are threatened by violence. This tragedy could have been avoided if our calls were heeded.

    The Autonomous Administration, which controls camp in , have been arbitrarily detaining 12 year old boys, separating 2 year old children from their caregivers, & curtailing access to healthcare. Read more:

    Some of these kids were forcibly separated from their mothers and taken from camps to jail when they became teenagers, just because they *might* become a threat.

    Stop for a minute and ask why kids were in prison in the first place. Some who had been transferred from detention camps straight to jail, for the sins of their parents.

    Islamic State fighters control the "children's section" of Gweiran prison in northeast Syria, an told me this morning, where "about 700 minors" are held. Earlier the SDF said the children were being used as human shields, preventing a final assault.

    If only the UK and US had invested in humanitarian drone airdrop systems for Syria, they would now have them ready for other emergencies.

    What if Russia actually encircles Kyiv, as is suggested in worst case assessments of what may happen? What would/could the US and the rest of Europe do to keep the city supplied, fed, and warm?

    6 civilians incl children, were killed & others wounded in an attack from an unidentified source on in on Jan 20. is investigating the incident to identify the perpetrators, believed to be either Syrian regime forces or the SDF.
