To everyone saying "it's not that bad". I have a Zoomer. A 13 year old. And I've heard her lament on how older people constantly are dismayed that they don't know anything....but there not being TAUGHT it. Or even shown it. If they don't see it in a movie. That's it.

And that is NOT there fault. Being "shocked" sounds cute when your not on the end of people constantly doing it to you but not helping you out. Tons of people will be shocked and complain about why they don't know...then not expose them to it.

I send my daughter books and movies and music and things I know she wouldn't be normally exposed to. Don't be shocked. Be saddened by the fact our world seems to be leaving them behind with almost glee.

A while ago I saw this and it explained something I'd never really been able to put into words:https://xkcd.com/1053/

Oh wow, this brings back memories. I had to do a little bit of red room for a high school elective. Can't imagine I'd have any idea what this was if I hadn't, though!

I had a hard enough time explaining to my niece what an LP was. "So this needle rakes across a plastic disk and makes sound." "But uncle... that sounds so archaic." "... Yeah, I'm done here..." ... *dies!*

The ONLY reason I learned how to do traditional photography was because my dad is a photography nerd and always had a dark room in any home we lived in, that I used for high school art projects. NOBODY teaches dark room use anymore in school. EVERYTHING is digital now.

My dad doesn't even use a dark room anymore. Even he switched entirely to digital. He hasn't manually developed photos in over a decade. Its also an EXPENSIVE thing to access between camera, film, chemicals, equipment, and HAVING SPACE for a dark room.
