Pause, and take a look around. How's that mentality working out right now? Cause people can say what they want but every other day I'm seeing a Ko-Fi for emergency funds. Not from unknown people, but from known voices! It's this death spiral that I'm seeing.

TTRPG space really....identifies with being broke as a concept. To the point where the second someone does well, people start to act differently. I had people instantly change their tone of me after the Kickstarter. Suddenly having a budget kicked me out the "indie club".

It's something I haven't seen in any other sector I've worked in. I sometimes wonder if this place even WANTS people to do well. As in actually pay their bills consistently make it. Maybe even have money to spend on yourself. Yet I almost never see kudos for that kind of stuff.

Everytime a product comes up, someone has to talk about how the price isn't worth it. When a price is too LOW, and people ask them to raise them...the creators are like NO. Supply and demand, DENIED. It's like everyone is conspiring to keep each other down.

And this isn't isolated. It's a group think where everyone is expected to be on board. Now that's obvious that Swordsfall is a thing and will come out, the detractors now always bring up my merch with this tone of disdain. Why? Cause I wanna pay my damn rent?

Instead of pausing to google about why shirts are good and cheap marketing, it's just condemnation. It's becoming a space where its, "Gimme my RPG rules as cheap as possible and GTFO." And THAT'S why WoTC and such are running away with it. Ya'll not even going TO the race.

The fact that this stuff splashes on me is what gets me the most. If people don't want to secure their spot, then that's ok. I'll take it. But I swear to Ishvana if ya'll don't start being TRUTHFUL about what you're doing, I'm gonna have a stroke.

There's an interesting intersection where RPG design as an art vs as a business that seems to really bother people.
-
Eh, I wouldn't agree with that. They don't care about art, they care about not spending their money. Cause that's what always comes up when people talk about the "art".
