that's a problem with every social network. mastodon, however, allows multiple people to have the same name bc there are multiple servers

like registering a domain name. one person gets the .com while another gets the .net or .biz. and like .com, one will become the default

Hopefully not - that would defeat the whole purpose of federated servers and disaggregated trust...

i don't mean an official default, i mean a defacto default due to the cognitive constraints of the general public. they *will* settle on one
