the LGBTQ+ community does not feel safe, welcome, equal, or supported on YouTube. we've been detailing for years how you could do better and nothing has changed. in fact, it's gotten worse. YouTube is largely a cesspool of alt-right conspiracies and harassment ~response~ videos.https://twitter.com/YouTube/status/1013104846428344320 …

I have queer people message me all the time saying they want to start a YouTube channel but they're afraid of all the harassment, or they did start one but quit due to harassment. and it breaks my heart to tell them there's nothing we can do.
@YouTube has decided this is okay.13 replies 90 retweets 603 likesShow this thread -
we've regularly told YouTube *exactly* what they can do to make their site better. with all their money/resources it's clear they have the ability to make changes but not the incentive or desire to.

YouTube won't implement any changes that could cut down it's hateful user base and make the site friendlier for queer creators because hate views bring in money. anger is profitable. hatred can be monetized. we're expendable as long as YouTube is making money.

every time YouTube talks about supporting the LGBTQ+ community it feels like lip service with no action. vague promises of changes to come some day down the line. meanwhile we're harassed off the platform while they profit from *appearing* inclusive.

You're not special, the LGBTQ+ community is not special. @YouTube @TeamYouTube treats ya'll exactly the way they do every other person that uses the platform or creates content. Equality, isn't that what you preach?
