Many of you think this is scary. I agree, and I see some climate scientists do too. This is way beyond normal variations, and, to me, it doesn’t even seem to be in line with gradual warming of the Arctic.

The warming of the Arctic, and its shrinking sea ice, are not just bad news for polar bears. It’s a huge, interwoven ecosystem. And it has an impact on climate way beyond the Arctic too.

And for those in Europe hoping that our present cold spell somehow compensates for the abnormally mild temperatures in the Arctic: It’s actually not that cold (second half of February won’t even make it into the top-10 here in NL).
