GOP ballot-challenge efforts are “as un-American as it gets,” writes the Republican Party’s longtime leading election lawyer. He debunks the myth of voter fraud (again). He laments the party’s descent into voter suppression. Worth your time:

I think there’s a very tough decision for the networks about taking Trump live on election night, particularly if you know he is going to come out and lie and sow dangerous disinformation about the election.

Some news around Biden's last-minute Ohio trip: It was added after Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown made a pitch for Biden to make one last stop in the state. It will be Biden's third trip to Ohio.

President Trump denies he’ll declare victory early but says, “I don’t think it’s fair that we have to wait for a long period of time after the election...We’re going in the night of — as soon as the election is over — we’re going in with our lawyers.”

I remain amazed at how the GOP has stared down the nation’s changing demographics and rather than adjust its policies doubled-down on systemic voter suppression and intimidation. This should be the main topic of all political coverage in the next 48 hours.

Some folks don't quite grasp Trump's scheme here. Yes, declaring victory is meaningless *by itself.* But there's more. Repubs hope to contest a portion of mail ballots in, say, PA, then use that to ask courts to halt count of all outstanding mail ballots.

Liberal use of the institutional “we” here. A pro-Trump editor took over in 2018; also fired one of the paper’s cartoonists for being critical of Trump.

Hey guys, please ignore this type of garbage. The truth is that elections are never decided on election night. In Utah (and most states) it takes 2 weeks to finalize counting and certify results. It really doesn’t matter who is ahead on election night, it only matters when...1/

  17. Trump "declaring" victory has no more legal consequence than if I declared myself the Queen of Spain. But Trump is well aware of the effect his rhetoric has on his supporters—in particular those with a propensity to engage in violence— and this should be understood as a threat.

press terminology note: Trump can't "declare victory" or "claim victory" any more than he can declare himself emperor. He can only predict victory. It's not his decision, so don't amplify his error.

Count every vote, obey the rules, respect the right of your fellow Americans to have their voices heard even if you disagree with them, remember that countless patriots have died to defend this process, be patient, and accept the outcome whatever it is. That’s who we are. 🇺🇸
