FUN FACT: Fully 820 miles of the nearly 2,000-mile US-Mexico border -- 41% -- is represented by a Republican, Rep. Will Hurd of Texas, who opposes a wall and was just reelected in a tough race in which he emphasized that position.

Anyway reminder that federal workers are, largely, not the distant elites of DC. They live all over. They protect, investigate, monitor, aid, build, clean, prevent, invent, and heal. They’re Americans. Almost a million of them expected a paycheck and can’t get another.

As we're discussing a potential spy swap for an American arrested in Russia, it's worth remembering that a Princeton grad student was arrested for spying in Iran and sentenced to 10 years last year. Haven't heard a peep from POTUS about it.
