Rosa Parks remained an icon of the #civilrights movement until her death. In 1999, Congress honored her with a Congressional Gold Medal.

It honors her famous refusal in 1955 to obey the driver's direction to move from her seat on the bus to make room for a white passenger.

She was arrested & found guilty of disorderly conduct and violating a local ordinance for her act of defiance.
